Lewis Barton's world is about to collapse in Emmerdale as he is kidnapped by a dangerous criminal, putting his life and his relationship with Vinny Dingle at risk. The storyline, which involves his long-lost father Kev Townsend, is set to culminate in a tragic exit for the character, played by Bradley Riches.
Kidnapping and a mysterious diamond
Last week, Vinny surprised Lewis with a spontaneous trip to Madeira. Lewis's anxiety initially prevented him from joining, but after encouragement from his brother Ross, he rushed to the airport to catch up. However, the romantic gesture turned into a nightmare when Lewis was violently bundled into the back of a van.
This week, Ross receives a concerning message about Lewis's abduction, stating that Lewis is at risk unless his father returns 'Penny' to the kidnapper. Ross discovers that Kev is Lewis's father and is approached by Kylie, the kidnapper, who demands the return of 'Penny,' which she calls the 'most precious thing in the world.'
Kev's secret
Liam finds Kev selling cakes from his van, but Ross is annoyed by Kev's attitude, leading to a scuffle. Under duress, Kev claims Penny is a diamond he sold to a pawn shop, and Ross demands he buy it back. However, once alone, Kev looks at a diamond around his neck, revealing he didn't sell it after all. The question remains: is this diamond worth Lewis's life?
Ross and Liam panic as Ross receives a threatening text from Kylie featuring scalpels. Kylie video calls Kev, demanding he return 'Penny' by the end of the day. Meanwhile, a terrified Lewis is being held by Kylie. When Lewis asks if she is going to kill him, Kylie responds enigmatically, worsening Lewis's panic.
Vinny's impending exit
Given Vinny's impending exit from the show, there are fears that Vinny will get caught in the crossfire. ITV has announced cuts this year, and Vinny Dingle is one of several characters saying goodbye to the Dales, along with Olivia Bromley (Dawn Taylor) and Jimmy King (Nick Miles).
Vinny arrived in the village seven years ago with his mother Mandy Dingle and has since embarked on a journey of self-discovery, realizing he is attracted to men. Lewis, a gay man with autism, provided a safe space for Vinny to process his feelings, leading to the end of Vinny's marriage to Gabby Thomas and the beginning of their relationship. Their first kiss came after they bonded over saving a runaway sheep.
Kev Townsend's return
Kev Townsend, played by Chris Coghill, was first introduced last year as the prison husband of Robert Sugden. Now he is back to reconnect with his son and open a cafe named 'A Slice of Kev-en.' Lewis's world is about to be turned upside down by meeting his unhinged father, and his relationship with Vinny, along with his very life, could be at stake.
Will Kev and Ross save Lewis from Kylie before it's too late? Or will Vinny get caught in the crossfire, leading to a tragic exit for both characters?
