US strikes target civilian infrastructure in southern Iran
Iranian state media reported that the US military struck multiple civilian infrastructure sites across southern Iran, including railway bridges and a port facility. Iran’s official IRNA news agency stated that the latest US attacks targeted six bridges, a railway station, a port control tower, and Iranshahr airport.
Casualties and Iranian retaliation
According to Iran’s health ministry, eight people were killed and 20 others wounded in the US attacks. In response, Iran fired on Middle Eastern nations hosting US bases, including Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and Qatar. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened “more crushing” attacks if US forces continued to target Iranian civilian infrastructure.
IRGC claims hits on US assets
The IRGC said it targeted US radar systems and military aircraft in Qatar to “punish the aggressor,” with Doha stating it intercepted a missile attack. The IRGC also claimed to have “targeted American fighter jets and tankers stationed in Jordan,” resulting in “the destruction of several US refuelling aircraft and warplanes and serious damage to many more of them.” The US did not immediately comment on these claims.
Damage in Kuwait and Jordan
Kuwait’s energy ministry reported that one of its power and water desalination plants was attacked by Iran, causing a fire and damage to the facility. The Jordanian military said it shot down three incoming missiles launched by Iran earlier today.
IRGC statement on continued strikes
Majid Mousavi, aerospace chief for the IRGC, said in a statement published by Iranian state media that Iran’s strikes “will continue until peace is restored to the southern coastline and the strait of Hormuz.”
Kurdish leader condemns Iranian attacks
Masrour Barzani, prime minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, denounced the “unjustified attacks” on the region, blaming Iran. He urged Iran to stop the escalation and called on the Iraqi federal government and the international community to end these violations.
