Four British tourists dead in Spanish wildfire car trap

Four British nationals have died after becoming trapped in a car during a wildfire in southern Spain, authorities confirmed. The victims were found inside a burnt-out vehicle with right-hand drive, indicating British origin. Andalusia's health and emergencies minister, Antonio Sanz, stated the occupants were believed to be British.

At least 11 dead, 19 missing in Almeria fires

The deaths occurred in the province of Almeria, Andalucia, where wildfires have killed at least 11 people. Seven other bodies were discovered near the village of Bédar, thought to be foreign tourists who abandoned their cars and attempted to flee on foot through rugged hills. A further 19 people remain missing, while over 600 residents were evacuated from Los Gallardos.

Minister Sanz described the tragedy: 'The decision to take another route instead of the designated evacuation route became a fatal trap.' He noted the victims were caught off guard by the 'very fast-moving fire, with an extremely high rate of spread,' according to El Pais.

Heatwave and dry conditions fuel flames

The region is enduring a heatwave similar to the UK, with temperatures exceeding 30°C for weeks. Bone-dry conditions and winds have hampered firefighting efforts. The southern province remains under alert due to the Los Gallardos wildfires.
