British teen brain dead after balcony fall in Athens

A 17-year-old British tourist has been declared brain dead after falling from a hotel balcony in Athens. The teenager fell head-first from the first floor of a property in the suburb of Halandri, north of the Greek capital, at around 5am on July 3, 2026.

Critical injuries and hospitalisation

He was taken to Erythros Stavros (Red Cross) Hospital, where doctors confirmed his condition was unrecoverable, according to ekathimerini. A source at the scene told the Sun that the teenager suffered multiple injuries, some internal, and had been placed on life support in an intensive care unit. 'It’s touch and go and we are all praying he will pull through,' the source added.

Police investigation and arrest

Hellenic Police are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy. Officers arrested a 37-year-old kiosk worker for selling the teenager alcohol after he presented a fake driver’s licence. The arrest highlights the role of underage alcohol sales in the incident.
