White House Hosts Nine-Hour Prayer Festival for 'Religious Renewal'
White House Hosts Nine-Hour Prayer Festival

The White House is set to host an all-day prayer festival on the National Mall this weekend, aiming to spark what it calls a 'movement of renewal' in America. The event, titled 'Rededicate 250: National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving,' is spearheaded by the Trump administration and will feature evangelical leaders and special appearances from top officials.

Event Details and Participants

Reverend Paula White-Cain, a senior faith advisor to the White House, stated that the event is about 'the history and the foundations of our nation, which was built on Christian values, on the Bible.' She added, 'This is really truly rededicating the country to God.' Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and other prominent Christian speakers are scheduled to attend. Although President Trump will not attend in person, he has recorded a video message to be broadcast during the event, according to the Washington Post.

Christian Nationalist Underpinnings

In his second term, Trump and his allies have adopted what they describe as a more 'Christian' approach to leadership. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has long advocated for a Christian nationalist approach. Reports have emerged that at the beginning of the war with Iran, American soldiers were told by officials that the conflict was 'God's plan' to bring about the end of the world. The Military Religious Freedom Foundation received over 200 complaints from personnel across all branches of the armed forces regarding these statements.

One complainant reported that their commander began a combat readiness briefing by urging troops not to be 'afraid' of the looming threat of war. The commander allegedly said, 'He urged us to tell our troops that this was “all part of God's divine plan” and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ. He said that President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth.' According to a copy of the email shared by journalist Jonathan Larsen, the commander made these remarks with a 'big grin on his face.'

Controversies Surrounding Trump

While touting Christian values, Trump has faced backlash for sharing an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus Christ, which angered even staunch MAGA supporters. He later claimed the image depicted him as a 'doctor,' but critics were unconvinced. One reply to the now-deleted image stated, 'The book of Revelations speaks of this, are you literally depicting yourself as a saviour or messiah? Just asking, as the Book of Revelations tells us the Antichrist will claim he is.' Trump also engaged in a war of words with Pope Leo, accusing him of 'catering to the radical left.'

The event is expected to draw significant attention as it seeks to rededicate the nation to God amid ongoing controversies.
