Lindsay Hoyle, the Speaker of the House of Commons, has confirmed that MPs will get to debate a Conservative call for a privileges committee inquiry into Sir Keir Starmer tomorrow.
Speaker's Announcement
Hoyle informed MPs that he received letters from various MPs, including the leader of the opposition. He emphasised that issues of this nature should be taken to the privileges committee sparingly.
Role as Gatekeeper
Hoyle described himself as a gatekeeper, stating that his role is to prevent frivolous complaints from being pursued. He explained that his job is to consider whether the Commons should take a view on the matter.
Decision to Allow Debate
After taking advice, Hoyle decided to let MPs take the decision. He confirmed that Kemi Badenoch will be able to table a motion for debate tomorrow. The debate is scheduled to take place after any statements and urgent questions.
