The son of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of Spanish fashion brand Mango, has been arrested by police in Spain for allegedly playing a role in his father's death. Mr. Andic, 71, died in December 2024 while hiking with his son near Barcelona, falling approximately 500 feet down a cliff.
Investigation Details
Jonathan Andic, 45, was the only witness to the incident. The police initially opened an investigation but closed it weeks later. However, the case was reopened in March 2025, and by October, authorities confirmed the death was being investigated as a possible homicide. Inconsistencies in Jonathan's statements led to a judicial review, according to La Vanguardia newspaper.
Family Response
The Andic family expressed confidence in Jonathan's innocence in October, stating they would continue to cooperate with authorities. Jonathan was taken to court facilities in Martorell, eastern Spain, where the case is under investigation, according to a spokesperson for the Catalan regional police, Mossos d'Esquadra. The case is subject to a nondisclosure order.
Jonathan Andic's Role at Mango
Jonathan is the eldest of Isak Andic's three children and a key heir. He serves as vice chairman of the board at Mango, one of Spain's largest retailers. Isak Andic, born in Istanbul in 1953, emigrated to Catalonia with his family in the late 1960s. He began selling T-shirts to high school classmates, later running a wholesale business and selling clothes in street markets before opening the first Mango store in 1984.
Mango's Global Empire
Mango grew into one of Europe's foremost fashion empires, with approximately 2,800 stores in 120 countries and over 16,000 employees. At his death, Isak Andic was the non-executive chairman and worth £3.35 billion, according to Forbes. Mango CEO Tony Ruiz stated that Isak 'dedicated his life to Mango,' leaving a legacy of success and human quality.
