Man Charged with Murder of Three Family Members in Sydney

A 32-year-old man has been charged with three counts of murder and one of attempted murder following a violent incident at a family home in Sydney’s south-west. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in the suburb of Rosemeadow.

Incident Details

New South Wales police were called to the residence just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of an assault. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman aged 65 and a man aged 25 deceased at the scene. A 64-year-old man was found with critical injuries and was treated by paramedics but later died in hospital. The victims are believed to be the parents and brother of the man in custody.

Family Members Involved

Superintendent Grant Healey, commander of the Campbelltown City Police Area Command, stated that all individuals involved were family members. A third son, aged 30, was also injured during the incident and was taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged. Healey confirmed that the surviving family member made the initial call to police.

Charges and Court Appearance

On Sunday evening, police announced that the 32-year-old man had been charged with three counts of murder (domestic violence) and one count of attempted murder (domestic violence). He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday.

Weapons and Scene Description

Police suspect that more than one type of weapon may have been used, based on the nature of the injuries sustained. No firearms were involved. Healey described the scene as “very bloody” and noted that blunt force trauma and edge weapon attacks are particularly distressing for those who encounter them.

Healey added that the family was not previously known to police, emphasizing that this was a tragic incident that could not have been predicted. “The information we have at the moment, the family weren’t known to us. This is a very tragic incident and there was no way for us to predict this type of thing was going to occur,” he said.
