Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has stated that the ceasefire agreement "is not over" despite recent Iranian attacks on commercial shipping vessels in the region.
Hegseth's Reassurance
Speaking to reporters, Hegseth emphasized the United States' commitment to defending its interests. "We said we would defend and defend aggressively, and we absolutely have. Iran knows that, and ultimately, the president can make a decision whether anything were to escalate into a violation of a ceasefire," he said.
Political Decision on Escalation
When asked about the threshold for restarting major military operations, General Caine clarified that it remains a political decision. He added that current Iranian actions are "low level" and amount to "harassment" at this moment in time.
Denial of 'Kamikaze Dolphins'
In a lighter moment, Hegseth also dismissed reports that Iran possesses so-called "kamikaze dolphins," telling a journalist that such claims are unfounded.
The situation remains fluid, with all parties closely monitoring any potential violations of the ceasefire.
