Reform Candidate Wins Seat After Racist Remarks

A Reform UK candidate who made racist and sexist comments on social media has won a council seat in Sunderland. Glenn Gibbins, the candidate for the Hylton Castle Ward, secured victory in this week's local elections.

Racist and Sexist Comments

In now-deleted posts, Gibbins expressed anger over the number of Nigerians in his town, writing that he 'carnt believe amount of Nigerians in town' and suggested they 'should melt them all down and fill in the pot holes.' He also made derogatory remarks about women, calling TV presenters Mel and Sue the 'two unfunniest fat repulsive lesbian hosts ever.' His sexist views extended to sports commentary, where he complained about a female commentator during a rugby match, stating, 'Yet another woman comentator. It's getting out of controll. There must be a hundred better male comentators but had to give it to a female. Wish they wud stick to cooking, sewing and homemaking.'

Another Reform Candidate Under Fire

Separately, another Reform UK candidate, Jay Cooper, who allegedly called the Holocaust a hoax, also won a seat in the local elections. Cooper won one of three seats in the Sefton Council for the Bootle West ward with 705 votes. In a since-deleted Facebook post, Cooper referred to the Holocaust as 'propaganda' and questioned the number of Jewish victims, claiming, 'There wasn't even 6 million Jews in Europe at the time.' He also shared a video suggesting that the 9/11 attacks were not real.
