Bromley Council Election 2026: Complete Candidate List Across All Wards
All 58 council seats at Bromley Council will be contested in the upcoming local elections scheduled for May 7, 2026. Voters across the South London borough will determine the political composition of their local authority, with the Conservative Party aiming to maintain control they have held since 2001. Currently, the Tories command a 34-seat majority on the council.
Key Figures and Political Dynamics
Council leader Colin Smith is seeking re-election in the Bickley & Sundridge ward, alongside five other members of the council's executive committee. The sole executive member not standing for re-election is Councillor Nicholas Bennett, who holds the portfolio for Transport, Highways and Road Safety.
The Labour Party hopes to expand their current representation of 11 seats, while the Liberal Democrats aim to build upon their five existing councillors. The Reform Party, with three current seats, also anticipates making gains in the election. The Green Party, which has never held a seat on Bromley Council, remains optimistic about breaking through this electoral barrier.
Independent Candidates and Political Shifts
The independent group Chislehurst Matters is campaigning to reclaim all three Chislehurst seats. Meanwhile, Councillor Melanie Stevens will not be re-standing for the Biggin Hill Independent group following the defection of her former colleague Councillor Sophie Dunbar to the Conservative Party in November 2025.
In that same month, Councillor Alisa Igoe announced her resignation from the Labour Party. She will now stand as an independent candidate in the Plaistow ward during the May 7 elections.
