ICE Agent Draws Gun on Woman in LA, Police Intervene Amid Tension
ICE agent points gun at woman during California confrontation

A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Southern California when a plain-clothes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent drew his weapon on a female driver, leading to police intervention and raising questions about law enforcement protocols.

Intersection Standoff Caught on Camera

The incident occurred on Sunday 5th June 2025 in Santa Ana, Orange County, approximately 30 miles from Los Angeles. According to the Fullerton Police Department, one of their officers had just delivered an incarcerated person to county jail when he spotted two vehicles stopped in an intersection.

The officer immediately intervened when he witnessed a man exit one vehicle and point a firearm at the other driver. The armed individual, later identified as an ICE agent, was dressed in civilian clothing but quickly presented his credentials to the responding officer.

Conflicting Accounts Emerge

Video footage of the encounter surfaced online, showing a man in sunglasses and a green shirt aiming his weapon at a driver while standing in the middle of the road. The woman can be heard expressing disbelief in the recording, stating: "What are you doing? Are you for real right now? And now these cops are helping them... I'm just driving."

The ICE agent claimed the woman had been following and filming him, but the police officer informed him that he couldn't provide assistance unless an actual crime had been committed. According to the police statement, the woman subsequently left the scene, followed by the officer.

Contradictory Statements from Authorities

The Department of Homeland Security presented a different version of events through spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. They accused the driver of screaming at the agent and attempting to cause a collision. McLaughlin stated the agent "followed their training" by activating emergency lights, identifying themselves, and ordering the driver to stop.

"To defend himself, following the aggression of the driver and her refusal to follow law enforcement commands, our officer followed his training and drew his weapon," McLaughlin said in an official statement. She added that the driver fled before local police arrived and remained at large, with no shots fired during the incident.

However, this account appears contradicted by video evidence showing the police officer responding to the scene while the driver was still present.

Legal Limitations on Local Police

The Fullerton Police Department emphasised their position on immigration enforcement in their press release, referencing California's Senate Bill 54 which prohibits local law enforcement from participating in immigration enforcement activities.

"ICE is a federal law enforcement agency, and Fullerton Police Officers will assist them, and any other local, state, or federal law enforcement agency, in situations involving immediate officer safety," the department stated. "However, Senate Bill 54 prohibits local law enforcement from participating in immigration enforcement. The Fullerton Police Department has not and will not participate in immigration enforcement efforts."

This incident occurs amid ongoing tensions regarding immigration enforcement and follows FBI warnings urging immigration officers to clearly identify themselves after several crimes were committed by individuals posing as agents.
