Coronation Street's Kit confides breast cancer news to Todd

Coronation Street's Kit Green, played by Jacob Roberts, will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in upcoming episodes. The character, who has been experiencing health concerns, discovers a lump and seeks medical advice off-screen. Despite his family's own worries about the BRCA gene, Kit decides to keep his diagnosis a secret from them and instead confides in an unlikely neighbour, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

Kit's Health Scare and Family History

Recent scenes have shown Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) discovering that the BRCA gene runs in the family, and she is set to undergo testing to see if she carries it. When Gemma Winter-Brown (Dolly-Rose Campbell) updates Kit about this, he begins to wonder if the gene could be linked to his own health problems. However, Kit has already sought medical advice without telling his family.

Jacob Roberts explained the sequence of events: 'He finds a lump, then he goes and gets it checked out. And then I think there's some discharge from the lump. And then it's like, "Oh, this is serious". He knows something's wrong. He doesn't know what it is at this point. He just knows this isn't normal. So he goes to the doctors and has check-ups and they don't exactly give him an answer straight away. So he's in a bit of a dilemma really. He's concerned about what's going on.'

Keeping the Diagnosis from Family

With Gemma and Bernie preoccupied with their own health and the health of Gemma's daughters, they haven't considered that Kit could also be affected. Kit does not want to alarm them until he has concrete news. Roberts said: 'He really doesn't want to worry anyone until he gets concrete news that he's got it and he can gradually tell people. It must be such a hard thing to tell people. Especially family, because you're delivering bad news about yourself, but you're also delivering bad news that they might have it. Brody might have it.'

Confiding in Todd Grimshaw

Despite his secrecy, Kit chooses to confide in Todd Grimshaw. The actor noted: 'I think that happens in real life as well. You end up telling people who are not actually connected with you.' The moment unfolds at the Rovers during Debbie Webster's (Sue Devaney) birthday party, when a heartfelt speech to Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) overwhelms Kit. He escapes to the backyard, where Todd finds him and asks what's on his mind.

Roberts elaborated on the dynamic: 'He feels safe with Todd because I also feel like Todd has his back. He can tell Todd certain things that won't go further, as it does on the street. It catches like wildfire. But with Todd, I think he'll keep his secrets. And it's just to offload why he's being a certain way. And maybe Todd gets him in that certain situation.'

This storyline follows recent developments where Kit spirals ahead of the diagnosis, and actress Sally Dynevor has been supporting Jacob Roberts amid the breast cancer storyline.
