The results for the 2026 Tower Hamlets council elections are currently being announced, following the mayoral vote on May 8 which saw Lutfur Rahman of the Aspire Party secure a decisive re-election. Mr. Rahman retained his position as Executive Mayor with 38.75% of the total vote, finishing more than 16,000 votes ahead of Labour's Sirajul Islam, who narrowly beat the Green Party candidate for second place.
Aspire Party Success in Key Wards
In the local council races, the Aspire Party has already held onto significant ground by winning both seats in the Spitalfields and Bangla Town ward through candidates Faysal Ahmed and Suluk Ahmed. The party also saw success in Canary Wharf where Maium Talukdar and Saied Ahmed were elected, as well as in Poplar where Gulam Kibria Choudhury took over 42% of the vote to secure his seat.
Labour Holds Limehouse
Labour managed to hold the Limehouse ward with David John Edgar winning a competitive race against Green and Aspire challengers. These local results come amidst a broader shift in London's political landscape where the Green Party has taken control of Hackney and Waltham Forest while Reform UK secured a majority in Havering.
Counting Continues
Counting continues for the remaining seats in Tower Hamlets to determine the final balance of power in the borough. See the results for Tower Hamlets below, updated as results come through.
