Luke Worley, the former Married at First Sight UK contestant removed from the show after an on-screen altercation, has declared he will stand as an independent candidate in the upcoming Clacton by-election. He joins a field that includes Nigel Farage and political stunt veteran Count Binface.
Reality TV to politics
Worley, drawing parallels to Donald Trump’s trajectory from reality star to president, told The Sun: 'I’ve survived reality TV, so politics should be a walk in the park.' He emphasised his local roots, stating: 'Nigel Farage might be one of the biggest names in British politics and Lord Binface might be the king of political stunts, but neither of them grew up in Clacton like I did.'
Campaign promises
In his manifesto, posted on Instagram with an AI-generated campaign poster, Worley pledged to 'restore pride in our town, support local families, and create opportunities for everyone.' He aims to make life more affordable and revitalise the high street year-round. 'If you’re from Clacton and vote for me, you will basically be voting for yourself as I will be the only voice you have,' he added.
Background
Worley was removed from Married at First Sight UK in 2023 after a physical confrontation with fellow contestant Jordan Gayle, which also led to his wife, Jay Howard, being ejected from the show. The by-election, triggered by the resignation of the previous MP, has drawn a colourful array of candidates.
