Ukraine Peace Talks in Florida as Drone Strikes Hit Russian Tankers
Ukraine Peace Talks Begin Amid Escalating Attacks

High-Stakes Peace Negotiations Commence in Florida

Ukrainian officials have arrived in the United States for crucial peace talks with prominent American figures including Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner. The meeting, scheduled for Sunday in Florida, represents Washington's latest effort to broker an end to Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the delegation's departure on Saturday through a social media announcement. "Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and head of the Ukrainian delegation Rustem Umerov, together with the team, is already on the way to the United States," the Ukrainian president stated.

The negotiations will proceed without Zelensky's top aide Andriy Yermak, who resigned unexpectedly on Friday following searches conducted by anti-corruption agencies at his residence.

Military Escalation and Diplomatic Movements

As diplomatic efforts intensify, military confrontations continue to escalate. Ukrainian naval drones successfully targeted two Russian oil tankers in the Black Sea on Saturday. The vessels, identified as the Kairos and Virat, were empty and heading toward Novorossiysk, a major Russian oil terminal, when they were struck.

This represents a strategic shift in Ukraine's approach to disrupting Russian energy exports. While Kyiv has previously focused on attacking refineries using long-range aerial drones, the latest strikes directly target Moscow's so-called "shadow fleet" - vessels Ukraine claims help Russia export oil to fund its military operations.

Meanwhile, Russian forces launched a massive assault on Ukrainian territory, firing nearly 600 drones and 36 rockets across the country. The attacks resulted in six fatalities and left dozens wounded. In Kyiv, power was cut to the western half of the city, affecting approximately 500,000 residents before emergency crews restored electricity to over 400,000 households.

International Diplomatic Coordination Intensifies

The Florida talks coincide with other significant diplomatic developments across Europe. French President Emmanuel Macron will host Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris on Monday to discuss "the conditions for a just and lasting peace."

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot issued a stern warning to Moscow ahead of the meeting. "Vladimir Putin must accept the ceasefire or accept exposing Russia to new sanctions that will exhaust its economy, as well as intensified European support for Ukraine," he declared in comments to La Tribune Dimanche newspaper.

Barrot emphasized that "peace is within reach, if Vladimir Putin abandons his delusional hope of reconstituting the Soviet empire by first subjugating Ukraine."

The diplomatic landscape has grown increasingly complex, with Russian officials indicating that Steve Witkoff plans to travel to Moscow next week. This potential visit echoes former President Donald Trump's statements about sending an envoy to meet with Putin regarding a "fine-tuned" peace proposal.

The situation also created regional security concerns when Moldova closed its airspace for approximately seventy minutes overnight after unidentified drones entered its territory. Moldovan authorities denounced the incursion, accusing Russia of using their airspace to launch attacks against Ukraine.
