Families in Ealing can now access free school uniform more easily thanks to a council partnership with a secondhand marketplace. The local authority has launched a new click-and-collect service operated via online platform Uniformd, allowing parents and carers to browse stock, reserve items, and choose a collection point.
The current pick-up points are ReActon and Northfields Library, with more to be added across the borough. Ealing Council is the first local authority in the UK to list school uniform on Uniformd, with shirts, skirts, trousers, sportswear, footwear and bags all available.
Council partnership with Uniformd
Councillor Dominic Moffitt, cabinet member for climate action, said: "We know how quickly children grow out of school uniform and that buying replacements can be another cost for families." By putting free uniform stock online, residents can see what is available and choose the items they need before making the journey to collect them.
Moffitt added: "It also means more good-quality clothes can be used again rather than thrown away. We're really pleased to be the first council to work with Uniformd in this way and to make our free school uniform project even easier for families to use."
Impact of the school uniform project
Ealing Council launched its school uniform project in August 2025, with teams collecting good-quality items and redistributing them through hubs and pop-up events. The initiative has supported more than 265 families, saved more than 800 uniform items from being thrown away, and helped conserve more than 330,000 litres of water.
Anna Wright, founder of Uniformd, said: "All families deserve access to affordable, sustainable clothing - school uniform included. We're proud to be working with Ealing Council to help provide access to high quality, pre-loved uniform to the families in their borough."
Donations and next steps
Ealing residents are encouraged to donate unwanted school uniform and clothes hangers. The latest list of drop-off locations is available on the ActforEaling website.
