Ukraine strikes deep into Russia, hitting military plant and oil refineries
Ukraine hits Russian military plant and oil refineries

Ukraine has escalated its offensive by launching missiles deep into Russian territory, targeting key military and oil assets, putting additional pressure on President Vladimir Putin.

Attack on Military Plant

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that several FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles struck a military plant in Cheboksary, located in the Chuvashia region. The facility produces drones and missiles for the Russian military. The attack, which occurred over 500 miles from the Russia-Ukraine border, left three people injured, according to officials.

Oil Refinery Fires

In a separate overnight attack in the Samara region, a fire broke out at the Novokuibyshevsk oil refinery. Eyewitnesses reported hearing the sound of a drone along with explosions. Ukraine also targeted two additional oil facilities, Lobkovo and Vtorovo, which supply Moscow and northwestern parts of Russia.

The strikes in the Vladimir region, more than 430 miles from the Ukrainian border, could lead to fuel shortages, further damaging Russia's economy and threatening Putin's domestic popularity.

Bridge Damage in Kherson

Ukraine also successfully damaged a key bridge connecting the Arabat Spit to the divided Kherson region on the frontline. The attack disrupted traffic on a vital supply route to Crimea, which Russia has occupied since 2014.

In response, nighttime trains in Crimea were halted and a curfew was imposed, an unpopular move for the Kremlin that may deter Russian tourists from visiting the region.

Drone Attack on Railway

Earlier in the week, drones reportedly damaged a locomotive on the route between Moscow and Simferopol, Crimea, on the Crimean railway.

Zelensky's Statement

Zelensky wrote on social media that since the beginning of the week, 11 Ukrainian regions have come under fire, with Russia using nearly 530 drones and two air-launched guided missiles. He emphasized that protection for Ukraine is 'a prerequisite for diplomacy to work' regarding any future peace plans.
