Monzo activates backup system amid outage
A Monzo spokesperson told Metro: 'We’re currently experiencing a technical issue and are working to resolve this as soon as possible. In the meantime, we’ve moved into our backup system, Monzo Stand-In, and customers can still do most things on their Monzo app, including sending bank transfers and making card payments and ATM withdrawals.'
Monzo account holders can still see their account balances and use their cards, but many have reported they cannot transfer money. The specific cause of the issue has not yet been revealed.
DownDetector reports spike in outage reports
DownDetector showed a sharp increase in outage reports for both Monzo and Santander on the same day. Santander users were met with a screen reading 'Santander UK isn’t responding.' The technical issues affecting both banks remain under investigation.
Monzo continues to work on resolving the problem, and customers are advised to use the Monzo Stand-In system for essential transactions in the meantime. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
