Christopher Rocha, 22, has been charged with the rape of a woman in Covent Garden, London. The accused, of Kilburn Lane, Westminster, also faces a charge of intentional strangulation. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday, September 12, and was remanded in custody.
Alleged attack on Macklin Street
The Metropolitan Police stated that the victim, a woman in her 20s, was approached by an unknown man as she walked through the crowded streets of Shaftesbury Avenue, Cambridge Circus, and Drury Lane in the West End. At around 5.20am on August 22, the man allegedly dragged her into a doorway on Macklin Street before raping her.
Police named Rocha following the investigation. He is due to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, October 9.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Ridley commented on the case, saying: "Our thoughts are with the victim who continues to demonstrate tremendous courage. No woman or girl should feel unsafe on the streets of London, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of those who commit these terrible offences."
