One teenage boy managed to escape the burning flat before firefighters arrived and was immediately transported to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews for treatment of serious facial injuries. Tragically, a second 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency responders.

The spokesperson added: "His next-of-kin are being supported by specially trained officers. Another boy - also aged 16 - was treated for serious facial injuries.
