A mother who died more than a week after being attacked at her home has been described by her grieving family as "kind, selfless and loyal" in an emotional tribute. Helen Bird, aged 47, was seriously injured inside a property on High Street in Chelveston, Northamptonshire, on February 2. She succumbed to her injuries in hospital eight days later, on February 10.
Family's Heartbreaking Tribute to Mother-of-Two
In a moving statement shared through Northamptonshire Police, Helen's family paid tribute to the devoted mother-of-two, describing her as "a wonderful woman who had everything to live for." The family wrote: "Helen was a deeply loved daughter, devoted mother of two, sister and friend. She was kind, selfless and loyal to her family, with her children always at the centre of her world."
The statement continued: "Helen's warmth, compassion and quiet strength touched everyone who knew her. We are devastated by her loss and immensely proud of the woman she was. Helen will always be loved and forever remembered." The family has requested privacy during this difficult time while expressing gratitude for the support they have received.
Police Investigation and Community Shock
Northamptonshire Police have launched a murder investigation following Helen's death. A 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and remains in custody. Detective Inspector Matt Bly stated: "Our thoughts are with everyone who loved this woman at what is a very distressing time, and specially trained officers are supporting her family. Although we are not looking for anyone else in connection with her murder, I would ask anyone with any information to contact us."
The local community has expressed profound shock at the tragedy. Andrew Seaman, chair of Chelveston-cum-Caldecott Parish Council, told The Daily Mail: "It's the first time we have had something like this happen in the village, I think. I didn't know the lady, but what has happened is a terrible shock, and my thoughts are with her family."
