British Transport Police (BTP) have released a CCTV image of a man they believe may hold crucial information after a 15-year-old girl was seriously sexually assaulted on a train bound for London Victoria.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, at approximately 3:10pm. The victim was travelling towards the capital when the assault took place. The suspect then disembarked at Gatwick Airport station, prompting a swift police investigation.
Urgent Appeal Launched
Detective Inspector Ciaran May, leading the investigation, described the incident as "very serious" and urged the public to assist in identifying the man pictured. In a statement, he said: "We’re launching an urgent appeal following a very serious incident on board a train this afternoon. I’d urge anyone who recognises the man in the photo to get in touch with us as soon as possible."
Authorities believe the man in the CCTV images may have information that could significantly aid their inquiries. The images were released as part of a public appeal to trace him.
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Detective Inspector May also appealed to fellow passengers who were on the train at the time of the assault. "Likewise, if you were on the train at the time and witnessed anything which may be useful to our investigation, please get in touch," he added.
