Amin Belechguer, 29, from Poynders Gardens in Clapham, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court today (October 21) after being convicted of 21 counts of dangerous driving. The motorcyclist filmed himself riding at 189mph on public roads and taunting police into high-speed chases across London.
Details of the Offences
Kent Police said Belechguer committed a "catalogue of dangerous driving offences" and tried "to goad police into high-speed pursuits." He was spotted riding a Kawasaki Ninja H2R without a registration plate on the A20 Ashford Road towards Maidstone at around 10.45pm on June 27 this year.
Belechguer pulled in front of a police vehicle, slowed down, and waved at officers in an apparent attempt to provoke a chase. He was pursued for a short distance, during which he reached speeds of more than 130mph on a single carriageway with speed limits of 40-60mph. He also crossed solid white lines into oncoming traffic on a blind hill.
Arrest and Evidence
Officers ended the pursuit due to safety concerns but deployed a stinger further up the road. Belechguer ran over the device, which deflated his tyres and forced him to stop. He tried to escape on foot but was arrested at the scene. His motorcycle, phone, and GoPro camera were seized.
Footage recovered from his devices showed him riding at up to 189mph in Kent, London, and Essex. He was seen performing wheelies, undertaking vehicles, running red lights, and racing at car meets.
Investigation and Sentencing
PC Daniel Goodman, the investigating officer, said: "Officers worked swiftly when presented with the opportunity to arrest a dangerous motorist. Despite having to terminate a pursuit due to the dangerousness of Belechguer’s driving, teamwork saw his vehicle brought to a stop and secured his arrest."
Belechguer’s motorcycle was permanently confiscated, and he will be subject to a 10-year driving ban upon his release.
