British Transport Police (BTP) have launched a public appeal for information after a 16-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at White Hart Lane station in Tottenham, North London, on the evening of July 7, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 PM, and detectives have now released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with the investigation.
The suspect is described as having been confronted by a member of the public shortly after the assault, which prompted him to flee by boarding a train. BTP believes the man, who was captured on CCTV, may hold crucial information that could assist their inquiries. The force is urging anyone who recognizes him to come forward.
Description of the suspect
The man in the CCTV images is wearing a blue Balmain t-shirt, a black cap, white headphones, black jeans, and a grey backpack. The images were released by BTP on August 10, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation. The force has emphasized that the man is not necessarily a suspect but a potential witness whose testimony could be vital to the case.
According to BTP, the assault took place at the station, which serves the London Overground and is located in the London Borough of Haringey. The victim, a 16-year-old girl, has been offered support by specially trained officers. The investigation is being led by detectives from BTP’s Crime and Security Command.

In a statement, a BTP spokesperson said: “This was a distressing incident for the victim, and we are determined to trace the individual responsible. We are appealing to the public to look at the images and come forward if you have any information, no matter how small it may seem.” The spokesperson added that officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the station and surrounding areas.
Community impact and safety concerns
The incident has raised concerns among local residents about safety at the station, which is a key transport hub for the Tottenham area. BTP has confirmed that patrols have been increased in the vicinity as a precautionary measure. The force is also working with the British Transport Police’s specialist units to ensure the victim receives appropriate support.
White Hart Lane station, which is managed by Arriva Rail London, is located near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is used by thousands of passengers daily. The assault has prompted calls for improved safety measures at the station, including better lighting and the installation of additional CCTV cameras. Local community leaders have expressed their shock and urged anyone with information to assist the police.
How to help
Anyone with information is urged to contact BTP as soon as possible. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are following several lines of inquiry. They have also appealed to the man in the images to come forward voluntarily to assist with the investigation.
In the meantime, BTP has reiterated its commitment to tackling sexual offences on the rail network and encourages victims of such crimes to report them to police. The force also reminded the public that support services are available for those affected by sexual violence.
