British Transport Police (BTP) are investigating a stabbing that left a person with severe, potentially life-changing injuries at New Cross station in Lewisham on the afternoon of August 18. Emergency services were called to the busy Overground and rail station shortly after 4:30pm following urgent 999 calls.
Victim Rushed to Major Trauma Centre
The victim, whose age and gender have not been released by BTP, was treated at the scene by paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. According to BTP, the injuries are not life-threatening but are described as severe. The London Ambulance Service confirmed in a statement: 'We were called at 4:38pm yesterday (18 August) to reports of a stabbing at New Cross Station, SE14. We sent an ambulance crew and a paramedic in a fast response car. The first paramedic arrived in less than seven minutes. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority.'
Disruption to Southeastern and Overground Services
The incident caused significant disruption to rail services. Southeastern trains were unable to call at New Cross station for over two hours while emergency services dealt with the aftermath. Windrush line services between Dalston Junction and New Cross were also affected. The station fully reopened just before 7pm on the same day.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
