Over 100 Leap From Burning Boat on Turkish Children's Tour

More than 100 people, including families, were forced to leap into the sea when a fire engulfed a children's tour boat off the coast of south-western Turkey. The vessel, named Imparator, caught fire in Katrancı Bay in the Fethiye district of Mugla, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. All 115 passengers were evacuated to shore, with 11 taken to hospital for smoke inhalation, according to officials. No fatalities were reported.

Fire Erupts During Popular Family Outing

The Imparator was on a daily tour exploring coastal bays and coves, a trip particularly popular with British tourists. The boat's operator promotes the experience as an 'unforgettable adventure' for youngsters, featuring meals, children's games, and entertainment. The fire broke out at around 11am local time in the boat's kitchen, though the exact cause remains unknown.

As the massive fire erupted, passengers jumped into the sea, with Coast Guard teams and nearby civilian boats and private vessels moving in to assist. An urgent distress call triggered a multi-agency response involving the Turkish Coast Guard, the Directorate General of Coastal Safety, and maritime police.

Rescue and Medical Response

Health teams checked passengers as they were brought to land. Officials reported that all 115 passengers were 'evacuated to shore', with 11 taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. None were thought to be in a 'serious condition'. The General Directorate of Maritime Affairs did not confirm how many children were evacuated, but it has been reported that several minors underwent precautionary medical checks.

In a statement on Facebook, the boat's operator said: 'We would like to inform the public that our customers and staff are safe.' The operator has not yet commented on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.

Investigation Launched After Boat Sinks

Extensive damage was caused, with images released by Turkish media showing the boat completely gutted by fire. The vessel was later seen starting to sink. An investigation has been launched to determine how the incident happened. The boat's operator, which hosts tours daily, has not yet announced any changes to its schedule or safety procedures.
