A 24-year-old man was rushed to a major trauma centre after being stabbed multiple times in Chingford Mount, East London, on the evening of August 4. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no arrests have been made and the attacker is still at large, prompting an urgent appeal for witnesses.
Attack on Brook Crescent
Emergency services were called to Brook Crescent, in the Chingford Mount area, shortly after 7:35pm following reports of a stabbing. Paramedics treated the victim for multiple knife wounds and a head injury at the scene before transporting him to a major trauma centre by road. The London Ambulance Service stated that his condition is not life-threatening or life-changing, according to a police statement released this afternoon (August 5).
The London Ambulance Service told MyLondon: "We were called at 7:38pm yesterday (4 August) to reports of a stabbing on New Road, Chingford, E4. We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a patient at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre as a priority by road."
Police cordon and investigation
A cordon was erected around Brook Crescent and New Road but has since been removed. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that enquiries remain ongoing, and they are urging witnesses to come forward as soon as possible. Detective investigators are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have dashcam or mobile phone footage.
MP calls for information
Chingford MP Iain Duncan Smith described the stabbing as a 'serious incident' and urged constituents to share any relevant information with investigators. In a statement, he said: "This is a deeply concerning attack in our community. I urge anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact the police immediately. We must work together to ensure the safety of our streets."
Recent knife crime in the area
The incident comes just weeks after another stabbing in the Chingford Mount area. A 34-year-old man was injured during an altercation on nearby Old Church Road, and a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with that incident. The latest attack has reignited concerns about knife crime in the borough, with local residents calling for increased police patrols.
According to the Metropolitan Police, knife crime in London has seen a 10% increase over the past year, with over 15,000 offences recorded. Community leaders have urged the government to invest in youth services and early intervention programmes to tackle the root causes of violence.
