An elderly woman has died following a botched burglary in Finsbury Park, prompting police to promise an increased presence in the area. The 75-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries in hospital the day after the incident, while an 81-year-old man was treated and discharged.
Incident Details
Police were called to Tollington Park, Finsbury Park, at approximately 9:20pm on Tuesday, August 11, following reports of an aggravated burglary. Officers arrived to find the woman and the man injured. The woman was taken to hospital, where she died on Wednesday, August 12. The man was also taken to hospital for treatment but was discharged the same day.
The crime scene remains in place at the home and along Evershot Road as of Thursday, August 13. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re at an early stage of this investigation and awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine how the woman died, with my team working hard to pursue all lines of enquiry.”
Police Appeal for Information
Massink added: “A crime scene remains in place as we gather evidence. We thank those who have already come forward to provide witness accounts, and appeal for anyone with information or doorbell footage to come forward. We believe a number of residents in the area will have key information that could help inform our investigation. No detail is too small.”
Superintendent Mark Hambleton, a policing lead in the area, said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. We recognise the concern this will cause locally and can reassure the community that officers are working tirelessly to determine what happened.”

Hambleton continued: “There will be an increased police presence in place while enquiries continue and we thank the public for their understanding at this time.”
