Police are searching for a stabbing victim who disappeared before officers could reach the scene in Brixton, leaving the attacker unidentified and at large. The incident occurred on Windrush Square, a busy public space, at approximately 3:30pm on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Police response and victim identification
The Metropolitan Police received a call at 3:32pm reporting a stabbing. Officers arrived swiftly but found no victim at the scene. However, police have since identified the individual and are actively trying to locate them, according to a Met spokesperson.
The spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, August 4, at 3.32pm police were called to reports of a stabbing on Windrush Square, Brixton. Officers attended the scene, but the victim left before police arrived. Police have identified the victim and efforts are underway to locate them.”
Crime scene and investigation
Dramatic photographs from the scene show a large red police cordon stretching across the square, which is a popular gathering spot. The crime scene has since been closed, and no arrests have been made, meaning the attacker remains on the loose.
“No arrests have been made at this stage and the crime scene has since been closed. Anyone with information that may assist police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 4259/4Aug,” the spokesperson added.
No ambulance response
The London Ambulance Service confirmed it did not attend the incident, suggesting the victim may have left before emergency services were notified or that they declined treatment.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and police are working to ensure the safety of the public and to apprehend the suspect.
