A 12-year-old boy in Brazil has miraculously survived being dragged under a lorry, escaping with only a fractured wrist and a grazed elbow after CCTV captured the terrifying incident.
Incident caught on CCTV
The extraordinary moment occurred on August 5 on Avenida Joaquim David in Firminopolis, in the Brazilian state of Goias. Footage shows the boy pushing his bicycle and stopping to wait as a Volvo FH 540 lorry turned onto the GO-060 highway. At the last second, the vehicle caught him, dragging him under and shoving him onto the road.
The video shows the boy being hit by the lorry's wheels, which appeared to push him along the tarmac before he rolled free. Moments later, he rose to his feet without difficulty and walked back to collect his bike, seemingly unharmed.
Immediate response and medical care
Staff from a nearby chemist witnessed the collision, provided first aid at the roadside, and drove him to Hospital Santa Gemma. Medics found he had fractured his left wrist and grazed his elbow. He was subsequently transferred to the Goiás State Emergency Hospital (Hugol) in Goiânia, where he is expected to undergo an operation.
The boy had been making his way home from school when the incident occurred. The lorry driver, who was traveling to a rural property to load his vehicle, contacted the Military Police several hours after the accident. He explained that he had continued driving because the child was in a blind spot behind his mirrors and he had no idea he had struck anyone.
Driver offers support
The driver said he only became aware of the incident when a friend sent him the shocking video. He then asked for the contact details of the boy's parents, adding that he intends to support the family and offer to cover the costs of his medical treatment. The police are investigating the incident.
According to reports, the outcome could have been far worse, but the boy's survival has been described as miraculous. The driver's willingness to take responsibility and offer assistance has been noted, though investigations are ongoing.
