At least 12 young people were injured in a shooting during a 'Sunday Funday' gathering near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, Oklahoma, on Sunday night. Police and hospital officials confirmed the incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. local time.
Police Response and Investigation
Edmond police spokesperson Emily Ward stated that officers responded to reports of gunfire at a party attended by young people near the lake. No arrests have been made as of late Sunday. 'This is obviously a very terrifying situation, and we understand the concern from the public and those involved. We are working extremely hard to find the suspects,' Ward said. She added that investigators are 'all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses.'
Victims and Hospital Care
Ten victims were transported to hospitals by emergency services, while others drove themselves. Nine individuals were treated at Integris Health Baptist Medical Centre in Oklahoma City, and three were at Integris Health Edmond Hospital. A hospital spokesperson noted that all patients were still being assessed late Sunday night.
Brixton Incident
In a separate event in London, police are investigating whether a drive-by shooting in Brixton is linked to a near-fatal knife attack in south London on the same night. A 25-year-old man is fighting for his life after shots were fired from a car on Coldharbour Lane just after 1 a.m. Saturday. Three other victims—aged 21, 47, and 70—were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Approximately one hour later and just 300 meters away, a 33-year-old man was found with multiple stab wounds on Acre Lane. He remains in a life-threatening condition. No arrests have been made in either attack, but the Metropolitan Police are investigating a possible connection. Officers were seen searching grass near the Southwyck House estate on Coldharbour Lane on Saturday evening. A local resident suggested the shooting may have occurred during a barbecue party on a green space that was 'packed' with families and children.
Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as investigations proceed.
