The body of a teenage boy has been found after he went missing in a lake. Declan Sawyer, 15, was swimming at Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln on Sunday when he got into difficulty in the water, according to reports.
Emergency services were called at around 2:30pm, prompting a major search operation involving an underwater search team and specialist divers. Lincolnshire Police confirmed the tragic discovery in a statement Sunday night: 'Our dive team have sadly found a body in the water at Swanholme Lakes, Lincoln. With agreement from the family we can share that the boy who died is 15-year-old Declan Sawyer.'
The force extended condolences to the family and acknowledged the impact on friends and the local community, especially as half-term week begins. They urged the public not to speculate or share unofficial information, which can be upsetting to those affected.
Declan disappeared on what was declared the hottest May day in 79 years, with temperatures reaching 32.3°C in London and around 25°C in Lincoln. The UK Health Security Agency had issued amber heat health alerts for several regions, warning of a potential rise in deaths and increased demand on health services.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of water safety during warm weather. Authorities encourage anyone affected to seek help and support.
