CD Projekt Red has confirmed that a proper trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's final DLC expansion, 'Songs Of The Past', will be shown at Gamescom 2026. However, the company has made it clear that no updates regarding The Witcher 4 will be presented at the event.
DLC Trailer and Presentation Details
Gamescom 2026 is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, August 25, with the Opening Night Live showcase hosted by Geoff Keighley. CD Projekt will debut the trailer during this event. Additionally, a 'guided presentation' will be held at the company's booth from Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30. Public showcases will also be available, though it remains unclear whether the DLC will be playable.
The expansion, announced earlier this year, is set for a 2027 release and will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will feature series protagonist Geralt of Rivia as the lead character, as confirmed by promotional art.
No The Witcher 4 at Gamescom
CD Projekt has stated that The Witcher 4 will not be present at Gamescom, which is unsurprising given the game's distant release timeline. The earliest possible launch is late 2027, but many analysts believe 2028 or later is more realistic. While unconfirmed, speculation suggests that the new Witcher 3 DLC may serve as a narrative bridge to The Witcher 4, which is expected to focus on Ciri as the protagonist. Geralt is said to be 'involved' in The Witcher 4, potentially through short playable sequences.
Other Witcher Projects in Development
CD Projekt is also working on a full remake of the first Witcher game, announced in 2022 and primarily handled by Fool's Theory, a Polish studio comprising former CD Projekt staff. The remake appears to be on hold as the studio assists with the Witcher 3 DLC. Additionally, a multiplayer spin-off known as Project Sirius is in development, alongside rumors of a separate free-to-play multiplayer game for PC and mobile.
The Witcher 3 has sold over 65 million copies, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time, tied with The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for eighth place. The ongoing popularity of the franchise supports CD Projekt's multiple concurrent projects.
