OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney, 30, has been sentenced to six years in prison for the manslaughter of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, 27, who was fatally stabbed in their Miami condo on April 3, 2022. However, with credit for time served since her arrest in August 2022, she could be released in as little as two years.
Plea Deal and Sentencing
Clenney pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon, a charge that carried a maximum sentence of 30 years. Her plea deal with prosecutors resulted in the reduced six-year sentence. She was taken into custody in August 2022, and the credit for that time means her remaining prison time is approximately two years.
The couple's relationship, which began a year before the killing, was described in court documents as 'extremely tempestuous and combative,' with 'numerous domestic violence incidents' reported. They moved into the Miami condo in January 2022, and by the time of the killing, the complex had initiated eviction proceedings following complaints from neighbors and security about their behavior, according to Court TV.
Victim's Family Statement
Obumseli suffered a single stab wound to the chest. Clenney claimed she threw a knife at him out of fear. In a statement read on her behalf, Obumseli's mother described learning of his death when medics called to ask if she would allow his eyes to be donated. She called it the 'darkest day of my life,' adding: 'Since April 4, I have lived with fear, anxiety, sleepless nights, heartache and more tears than I can count. There was a joy in my life and my family's life that has never completely returned. The loss of Christian did not end April 4; we carry it with us every day. Christian, your legacy and your memory will remain with us. We miss you, we love you; may you continue to rest in peace, my son.'
The Obumseli family's lawyer, Larry Handfield, told reporters after the hearing that the guilty plea had given them 'closure.' He said: 'I don't think there's anything that she could say that can change what happened. I think that she should have, at least, apologized, but even her apology would not have removed what she did in April 2022. The most important thing is that the family wanted someone to accept responsibility, and the family saw that today. She is a convicted felon for the rest of her life.'
Reaction from Clenney's Family
Clenney's father, Kim Clenney, expressed dissatisfaction with the sentence, stating: 'There was no wrongdoing by my daughter, or my wife, or I. In fact, one day in jail is one day too many.'
According to Court TV, Clenney's plea deal does not include provisions preventing her from profiting from her story in the future. The 'Son of Sam' law, named after serial killer David Berkowitz, typically requires that any earnings from criminal exploits be directed to victims' families. Assistant State Attorney Shawn Abuhoff said in court that his office plans to work with Florida's attorney general to initiate financial proceedings if she chooses to profit from her story.
