Enfield rapist who groomed girl on TikTok jailed 13 years

A 23-year-old man from Enfield has been sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison for raping a young girl he groomed via TikTok and Discord. Joshua Gray, of Ellanby Crescent, Edmonton, travelled from London to a village near Bedford, where he persuaded the child to meet him in a local park late at night before subjecting her to rape and sexual assault.

Grooming and Offence Details

The abuse followed a series of conversations on the social media platforms TikTok and Discord, during which Gray sent the victim numerous sexually explicit messages over a four-day period. Bedfordshire Police reported that Gray deliberately targeted a vulnerable young girl online and manipulated her into meeting him, later abusing her in what they described as the worst possible way.

The victim's disappearance triggered a missing person investigation, which led to Gray's arrest shortly after the incident. He later pleaded guilty to several offences, including rape, sexual assault, sexual communication with a child, and intentional strangulation.

Sentencing and Court Orders

At Luton Crown Court on October 2, Gray was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison. In addition to the custodial sentence, the court issued a 20-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order, reflecting the severity of the offences and the ongoing risk he poses.

Police Response and Victim Bravery

Detective Constable Lauren Byrne, of Bedfordshire Police, commended the victim's bravery in supporting the investigation. She said: "Gray deliberately targeted a vulnerable young girl online and manipulated her into meeting him before abusing her in the worst possible way."

Byrne added: "I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in supporting this investigation. I hope this sentence demonstrates that we will do everything possible to bring offenders who exploit and abuse children to justice."

She also urged others to report such crimes, stating: "Please remember it's never too late to report. By doing so you could help us put these dangerous perpetrators in prison, while potentially protecting further victims."

The sentence sends a clear message that child sexual exploitation will be met with severe consequences, and Bedfordshire Police have reiterated their commitment to pursuing offenders who use online platforms to target minors.
