A new Emmerdale trailer confirms police drama as struggling Charity Dingle disappears. Charity (Emma Atkins) continues to struggle following her sexual assault ordeal by the sinister Dr Todd (Caroline Harker). Next week, she gets in her car and drives out of the village, leaving her loved ones incredibly concerned.
Charity's recent struggles
The much-loved show matriarch has had a very tough time lately. After agreeing to be a surrogate for Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) – hoping to grant her lifelong wish to be a mum – Charity was shocked to learn the baby was actually her own, after she cheated on husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) with ex Ross Barton (Michael Parr). To avoid breaking Sarah's heart, she kept the paternity a secret. After a traumatic birth, she handed the newborn to Sarah and Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), who are overjoyed as parents.
But Dr Todd, who had been bullying Jacob for weeks, discovered the baby's true paternity and blackmailed Charity into handing over thousands of pounds. Earlier this month, the story took another devastating turn when Todd sexually assaulted Charity.
Police involvement and family concern
Charity reported the crime to the police, but it didn't lead anywhere. After Todd left the village, she continued to struggle, leaving Mack incredibly worried. Her loved ones believe she has postnatal depression, and Charity didn't argue, feeling alone and isolated, unable to talk about her ordeal in case the truth about baby Leyla is revealed.
The situation escalates next week, as confirmed in a new trailer, with Charity getting in her car and driving off, leaving her loved ones panicked. In the preview clip, Mack says he's going to contact the police while Charity screams in her car, devastated by what she's been through.
A stranger offers help
New spoilers confirm that while standing by a lake, Charity is approached by a stranger who puts a hand on her shoulder, seeing her distress. Charity retaliates with violence, but the stranger offers support. Will Charity open up about what she's going through?
