Newly released bodycam footage captures the shocking behavior of Jamie Lee Komoroski, the 27-year-old woman who killed a bride on her wedding night in a drunk-driving crash. The video shows Komoroski complaining to police, asking, “Why are you being so mean?” as she was processed at the Folly Beach police station.
Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death, and reckless homicide. The crash occurred on April 28, 2023, when she drove her rented Toyota Camry at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, slamming into a golf cart carrying the newlyweds and two guests.
Arrest Footage Shows Defiance and Pleas
The footage, shared by Live 5 News, shows Komoroski screaming, “Is she okay?” before telling officers she had consumed one drink and a beer in the last hour. Later, she demanded to call her father, arguing, “Nobody has any proof of anything that I did, so give me the right to call my dad.” When officers refused, she became increasingly agitated.
At the station, Komoroski was heard saying, “I just wanna like, get this over with and go home.” Spotting the camera, she ranted: “Oh, hi camera, yeah I’m crying because he’s not letting me call my f****** father, even though they haven’t proven s*** and don’t have any right for me not to be able to contact my family or anyone that I want to, so yeah, hello, I’m crying.” She then added mockingly, “Ooh, I’m being just a little baby,” according to the New York Post.
Crash Details and Victims
The collision killed 34-year-old Samantha Hutchinson, the bride, and injured her husband Aric Hutchinson, 36, who suffered a brain injury and broken bones. Also injured were the groom’s brother-in-law Benjamin Garrett and his son Brogan Garrett, who were in the golf cart. Aric Hutchinson filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Komoroski in May 2023.
Court documents obtained by WCBD in Charleston reveal that Komoroski admitted to drinking one beer and one tequila before driving but “strongly refused and became uncooperative” when asked to take a field sobriety test. The arresting officer testified that Komoroski had trouble standing and smelled strongly of alcohol.
Blood Alcohol Level More Than Three Times Legal Limit
After her arrest, Komoroski was taken to Charleston County Jail, where a court-ordered blood test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.261, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08. This evidence was crucial in securing her guilty plea and the 25-year sentence.
The victims were identified as Samantha Hutchinson, her husband Aric Hutchinson, Benjamin Garrett, and Brogan Garrett. Samantha was pronounced dead at the scene, while Aric and Benjamin were hospitalized in serious condition, as noted by the groom’s mother, Annette Hutchinson, in a GoFundMe post.
