Music streaming platform Deezer is facing an avalanche of AI-generated content, with 90,000 synthetic tracks uploaded every day, according to the company. In June 2026, one in two tracks uploaded to the French service was AI-generated, double the number compared to September 2025.
Why AI music is flooding platforms
Aurélien Hérault, chief innovation officer at Deezer, told Metro that the surge is driven by ease of creation. 'Because it's possible to do so,' Hérault said. 'It's never been easier to create music, and with only a few words you can prompt a whole song.'
Deezer began tracking AI uploads in January 2025, when it counted around 10,000 AI tracks daily, or 10% of uploads. The number doubled by April 2025, climbed to 30,000 in September, 50,000 in November, and reached 60,000 in January 2026. By June 2026, the figure hit 90,000, representing 50% of all daily uploads.
Listeners can't tell the difference
Deezer conducted a test in 2025 with 9,000 participants, asking them to identify AI-generated tracks versus human-made ones. AI fooled 97% of listeners. The company shared examples: 'Someday' by British-Sudanese neo-soul artist Elmiene (human) and 'Say My Name With Respect' composed using Suno AI software (AI). Another example included 'Heart You Help Me Find' by Sienna Rose, flagged by Deezer as containing AI elements, and 'PDA' by Toronto R&B creator 3ee (human).
AI artists making real money
The artificial artist Xania Monet, created by Mississippi poet Telisha Jone, signed a $3 million deal with a major R&B record label in September 2025. Breaking Rust, a music project by composer Aubierre Rivaldo Taylor, had its AI-generated single 'Walk My Walk' top the Billboard Country Digital Song Sales chart. Deezer labels AI-generated content with a notice: 'AI-generated content. This album includes tracks detected as generated with the use of AI.'
Streaming fraud and listener impact
Despite the volume, Hérault said that only 1-3% of streams on Deezer are AI-generated tunes. 'Up to 85% of these streams are fraudulent, meaning people are synthetically boosting the streams to steal money from the royalty pool and legitimate artists,' he added. Deezer excludes AI tracks from recommendations to minimize harm. Hérault noted that listeners may be curious or discover AI music via social media. 'We want to give our users the choice,' he said, 'and we've seen that people care about knowing if they listen to AI music or not.'
