Anthony Durkan, a 35-year-old father of two, has pleaded guilty to 19 counts of voyeurism at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court, bringing his total number of voyeurism offences to 26 after earlier admitting seven separate incidents in March. The charges stem from a campaign of 'serious and sustained predatory behaviour' between 2020 and 2025, during which he spied on women through their windows in the middle of the night, often while they were undressed.
Hundreds of videos found on phone
Officers discovered a hidden folder on Durkan's phone containing hundreds of images and videos of women, with no indication that the victims knew they were being recorded. The offences came to light after a neighbour in Islington spotted a man 'dressed entirely in black and wearing a balaclava' walking outside a property in the early hours of January 2025. The neighbour's Ring doorbell captured the suspect holding his mobile phone up to the windows and appearing to record.
Weeks later, another woman confronted a man recording her through her window, but he fled. Doorbell footage from a neighbour again captured him at the scene. Police increased patrols in the area, and officers in an unmarked car eventually spotted Durkan outside another Islington property. A search of his phone revealed the hidden gallery, leading to the identification of a third victim, though police believe there may be more.
Police praise victims' courage
Detective Chief Inspector Gemma Alger said: 'Durkan's offending represented a serious and sustained course of predatory behaviour, deliberately targeting women who were entirely unaware they were being filmed, without their consent and in the privacy of their own homes.' She added: 'I want to thank the women who had the courage to come forward and report Durkan's crimes. Their reports, supported by witnesses and swift investigative work, enabled officers to act decisively and arrest Durkan during a proactive patrol. This conviction reflects the severity of these crimes and means a dangerous individual has been brought to justice, preventing further harm to women.'
Sentencing to follow
Durkan pleaded guilty to all 19 counts at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on July 21, 2026. He will be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court at a later date. The case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of doorbell cameras in identifying offenders.
