Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) have been at odds in Coronation Street, and next week Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) is forced to intervene after a heated row leaves Betsy vulnerable.
Betsy’s stroke and its aftermath
Betsy suffered a stroke after engaging in consensual strangulation during sex with Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne). The stroke left her with aphasia and dysarthria, impairing her speech and mobility. Lauren wants Betsy to report Dylan to the police, but Betsy insists it was an accident and that Dylan has been punished enough.
‘It’s two consenting young adults. There isn’t a villain in this,’ actress Sydney Martin told Metro. ‘They’re just experimenting with something that seems so natural. I mean, the law was only brought in last year that you have to prove your age to watch porn. These are people who have only just turned 18 who would have grown up with access to porn and access to that side of things, and to see sex portrayed in a light that’s not realistic and that’s heightened. So, I really feel for both of them in this situation.’
Lauren’s push for justice
In recent scenes, Lauren tried to persuade Betsy to tell police about Dylan’s involvement, but Betsy threw her out. Next week, Betsy confides in Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) that she wants to talk to Dylan but fears her mother’s reaction. Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) isn’t the only one trying to keep them apart; Lauren is furious when she learns Dylan visited Betsy. Lauren shares her frustrations with Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey), insisting Dylan must be held accountable. When Brody confronts Dylan, a row erupts.
Carla’s fury after Betsy’s accident
Later in the week, Lauren and Betsy argue again, and Lauren storms out, leaving Betsy alone. When Lauren returns, she finds Carla comforting a tearful Betsy, who has had an accident after failing to reach the bathroom alone. Carla rails at Lauren for abandoning Betsy. The next day, Betsy refuses to leave the house when Lisa suggests fresh air. Lauren calls round to apologise, but will Betsy accept?
