The RSPCA has launched a full investigation after a dead cat was discovered hanging from a dog lead on a garden fence in North London, in what inspectors have described as a sickening and cruel act.
Grim Discovery in Tottenham
The tragic incident occurred on Gospatrick Road in Tottenham, where a resident made the grim find on January 20. At around 2.30pm, the homeowner's dog began barking persistently at the fence, prompting them to investigate. On the opposite side, facing into a nearby alleyway, they found the body of a black-and-white feline suspended from a dog lead.
Appeal for Information and Witnesses
RSPCA Inspector Jaqueline Schultz expressed disbelief at the brutality of the act, stating: "It really beggars belief why someone would commit an act as cruel and sickening as this." With no apparent CCTV coverage in the location, the charity is urgently appealing to the public for assistance.
Inspector Schultz is keen to hear from anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or may have relevant footage, such as from Ring doorbell cameras, around the time of the incident or the preceding day. Found posters have been distributed throughout the local area in an effort to trace the cat's owner.
Description of the Cat
The cat is believed to be male and was not microchipped, though its good physical condition suggests it was likely owned. It is described as:
- Mostly black in colour
- White whiskers
- White left back foot and white front toes
- White belly, throat, and chin
- White left upper lip, with the right upper lip black
Anyone with information about the incident, the cat, or its owners is urged to contact the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018.
