A new report by property company Barratt London has identified the London boroughs with the most street art. Tower Hamlets leads the list with 197 pieces, followed by Hackney with 106 artworks and Camden in third place.
Tower Hamlets: A Hub of Street Art
Tower Hamlets, which includes Shoreditch's artist spots, is the canvas for some of Banksy's earliest works. Several Banksy pieces remain, such as the weathered pink car in the Truman Brewery complex and the Designated Graffiti Area on Rivington Street, though many have been removed over time.
The borough offers a wide range of art, much of it in the Truman Brewery. Notable works include a three-storey-tall crane painting by Belgian street artist ROA, a leftover sculpture from the 2018 Festival Iminente exhibition by Portuguese artist Vhils, and Crunchy the Credit Crunch Monster, a sculpted pink creature that has been on a roof since 2011.
Hackney and Camden Follow
Hackney, with 106 artworks, is described as the city's creative hub. It features the 40-year-old Hackney Peace Mural by Ray Walker. Hackney Art Week, launched in 2025, has been adding temporary street art exhibits for free viewing. This year saw an installation of sandwich-slash-shoe sculptures by Jeanne Gourlaouen and a living collage made up of QR codes.
Camden has seen a burst of colour over the last decade thanks to efforts by the Real Art of Street Art and the Camden Markets Group. Walking tours highlight works such as Stephen Gonzalez's interactive mural of a sofa, which visitors can 'sit on' by perching on the painted electrical box. Camden beat Tower Hamlets in street art-related Google searches by more than 13,000, according to Barratt's study.
Unexpected Entries and Full List
Westminster, despite regular street cleaning that removes much art, still has 19 notable artworks. Lambeth's standout spot is Leake Street Arches under Waterloo Station, with 300 metres of graffiti along an abandoned rail underpass. The project was started in 2008 by Banksy and has grown into a cultural hub with food, drinks and entertainment.
The top 10 London boroughs with the most street art are: Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Camden, Lambeth, Waltham Forest, Southwark, Bromley, Westminster, Islington, and Newham.
Street art is free to view, and London also offers numerous free art galleries. The Design Museum is hosting a major new animation exhibition from the makers of 'Coraline'.
