A new piece of graffiti art, suspected by some to be the work of the elusive artist Banksy, has appeared on Arthur Road in Windsor, sending local residents and social media into a frenzy.

The artwork, which materialised this week, depicts a British soldier in the iconic grey tunic and bearskin cap associated with the troops who guard the Royal Family. The soldier is shown holding a spray paint can and has graffitied the letters 'dom' onto the end of the phrase 'God Save the King'. Its location, just around the corner from army barracks and opposite King Edward Court, is considered highly significant by observers.
Expert Analysis: Banksy or Copycat?
Art experts have offered their insights on whether the piece bears the hallmarks of the genuine Banksy. Madeleine White from Hang-Up Gallery noted the work's satire and political messaging, which aligns with Banksy's known style. She suggested it could be a critique of the monarchy, particularly in relation to the former Prince Andrew, whose name was mentioned in connection with newly emerged emails involving Jeffrey Epstein.
'Banksy provides comment on authority and power structures, whether it be the Government or Royal Family, through his art,' White told Metro. She added that the soldier using a graffiti can could symbolise 'resistance and more affordable means to create art.'
However, White expressed caution, pointing out that it is extremely unusual for Banksy not to have claimed the work quickly, which casts doubt on its authenticity.
Another expert, Acoris Andipa, director of Andipa art gallery, was more sceptical. He stated he was 'not entirely convinced,' citing differences in the font used for 'dom' and a lack of the characteristic wit and clear message typically found in Banksy's pieces. He also questioned the ambiguous meaning of 'dom' within the context of the artwork.
