Hampstead's Christmas lights will be switched on by a mystery celebrity at a free family event on Hampstead High Street on November 15, featuring Santa and his reindeer.
The event, organised by the Hampstead Village Committee, runs from 4pm to 7pm, with the lights switch-on scheduled for 6pm. The VIP guest's name will be revealed in early November, according to organisers.
Festive Attractions for All Ages
Billed as a "magical family event," the evening will include children's mini funfair rides, live entertainment, and carols and performances from local school singers. Food stalls and festive treats will be available, along with creative stalls offering face painting, hair braiding, and airbrush tattoos.
Attendees will also have a photo opportunity to meet Santa and his reindeers, making it a highlight for families in the area.
Community Effort to Brighten the Village
The Hampstead Village Committee is seeking financial donations to fund a "bigger, brighter lights scheme for the village." Victoria Nurtman, owner of cafe Ginger & White and a committee member, said: "Hampstead is one of the most beautiful villages in London, and at Christmas it deserves to shine."
She added: "This year our High Street lights will be bigger, brighter and more magical than ever, creating a real sense of occasion and making Hampstead a destination to visit throughout the festive season."
Community Celebration and Local Support
Nurtman expressed excitement about the community aspect of the event, saying: "We can't wait to bring the community together for the switch-on and welcome visitors to enjoy everything our village has to offer." The event is expected to draw residents and visitors alike, boosting local businesses during the festive period.
The Hampstead village Christmas lights switch-on will take place on Hampstead High Street on November 15 from 4pm to 7pm, with the lights switch-on at 6pm. Further details about the celebrity guest will be announced in early November.
