Slipknot has officially addressed the growing speculation that Sid Wilson is leaving the band, but the confirmation was swiftly deleted from Instagram. The heavy metal band posted a statement saying, 'Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best with his future endeavours,' according to fans who screenshotted the announcement before it was removed.
The deleted post comes after weeks of rumors that Wilson, 49, was permanently out of the group. The speculation began on July 31, when a TMZ source reported that Wilson was 'notified late Friday afternoon that he's been permanently kicked out of the band.' Slipknot initially stayed quiet, but guitarist Jim Root urged fans to 'Don't believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for a while. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there's more information.'
Band Members' Mixed Signals
Despite Root's caution, TMZ later doubled down, citing sources 'with direct knowledge' who claimed the group had 'finally had enough of his behaviour,' specifically 'the way he treated his bandmates.' The outlet reported that the firing was 'a long time coming — not some abrupt decision made in the heat of the moment.'
However, at the inaugural World Scratch Invitational earlier this week, Wilson introduced himself as being 'from the world famous Slipknot.' His Instagram bio still reads '@slipknot gang since 1997,' and he has not unfollowed his bandmates, nor has the official account unfollowed him.
Recent Lineup Turmoil
Slipknot's lineup has faced several changes in recent years. Chris Fehn, longtime percussionist, was dismissed in 2019 over a financial legal dispute. In 2023, Craig Jones, who had been with the group since 1996, left without public explanation. That same year, drummer Jay Weinberg was fired over what the band called 'creative differences,' with Weinberg saying he was 'blindsided' and 'heartbroken.'
Wilson has yet to address the split publicly, instead posting about his DJing and home life on social media. His ex, Kelly Osbourne, 40, shared cryptic Instagram Stories urging someone to 'take some responsibility' and demanding the return of her dogs, belongings, and child support.
