Sam Thompson, known for his charismatic personality and sense of humor, recently shared an awkward encounter with King Charles that left him visibly nervous. The former Made in Chelsea star, 33, attended the star-studded King's Trust 50th Anniversary Celebration on Monday, where he spoke with Metro about his relationship with the royals and his new girlfriend, Talitha Balinska, whom he described as 'beautiful.'
Ambassador Role and Royal Encounters
Thompson, who has been announced as an ambassador for the charity, stated: 'To be honest, to be a King's ambassador is probably one of the highest pinnacles of my career.' Despite having previously met His Majesty, Thompson admitted he does not feel entirely at ease with him just yet. 'I met the King last year, but I wasn't invited to the palace this year. Maybe it's because I shook his hand weirdly last time and I called him "mate." And then I realised I got it wrong, called him "sir" and realised he's not even a f*****g sir! I finally said Your Majesty and by that point I was sweating.'
Awkward On-Air Moment
This is not the only awkward moment Thompson has faced recently. While hosting Hits Radio Breakfast for Fleur East, Will Best, and James Barr, a listener asked how he felt about his ex Zara McDermott dating Louis Tomlinson. The reality star ended his long-term relationship with Zara at the end of 2024, and both have since moved on publicly. Zara is now in a relationship with the former One Direction singer, while Thompson quietly began a new chapter with Talitha.
During the live broadcast, a caller directly referenced the One Direction track Steal My Girl. Thompson handled the question with grace, admitting he still enjoys the song and even listens to it on the tube. 'Holly, I am live on air! How do I feel? First of all, and I mean this when I say it, it's a brilliant song. I still listen to it on the tube. I know that sounds weird but I listen to it on the tube all the time,' he said. He made it clear there is no resentment toward Zara's new relationship.
New Chapter with Talitha Balinska
Despite the uncomfortable mention of his ex, Thompson is now happier than ever with Talitha. He told Metro: 'She's moved in, things are so good. How did I get so lucky? I do not know, because my chat sucks as well. It's the first time we've done a red carpet as well so it's great.'
