Metallica is set to perform at London Stadium on Friday, July 3, and Sunday, July 5, 2026, as part of their M72 World Tour. The band is promoting a "no repeat weekend," meaning each night will feature a distinct setlist and different support acts. London is one of three UK stops, alongside Glasgow and Cardiff.
Metallica's Legacy and History
Formed in Los Angeles in 1981 after frontman James Hetfield responded to an ad by drummer Lars Ulrich, Metallica quickly added lead guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Cliff Burton. Their breakthrough came with the 1986 album 'Master of Puppets,' which is often considered their magnum opus. Tragedy struck later that year when Burton died in a bus crash in Sweden. Jason Newsted replaced him for the 1988 album '...And Justice For All,' which earned the band its first Grammy nomination. To date, Metallica has sold over 125 million records worldwide and won ten Grammy Awards. The band is part of thrash metal's "Big Four" along with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Hits like 'Enter Sandman,' 'Nothing Else Matters,' and 'Master of Puppets' have each surpassed a billion streams on Spotify. The current lineup includes Hetfield, Ulrich, Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo, who joined in 2003.
