John Stamos marked his 63rd birthday with a nude selfie on Instagram, prompting an outpouring of reactions from fans and fellow celebrities. The black-and-white bathroom photo, cropped just above the waist, shows the actor's toned torso with his face covered, leaving his 4.5 million followers stunned.
Rita Wilson and fans react to the birthday post
Within hours, the post attracted thousands of comments, including one from actress and singer Rita Wilson. The 69-year-old wrote: '63???? You have the numbers flipped. 36!!' Other fans echoed the sentiment, with @thepoptimist praising Stamos for 'raising the bar on how to age,' and @emilygregory86 saying he's 'never looked better.' @fullhouse4ever admitted they 'nearly passed out' after seeing the star in his birthday suit.
Many comments referenced Stamos's iconic role as Jesse Katsopolis on the ABC sitcom Full House. @the_burratababe wrote: 'Uncle Jesse why are you doing this to us ?', while @kirbiejohnson said: 'Have meeeeeercyyyyyy.' @femmedebloom added: 'DONT DO THIS TO ME STAMOS.' @casey_atchison4_ predicted: 'Uncle Jesse bout to break the internet ??'
A tradition of birthday thirst traps
This is not the first time Stamos has shared a nude birthday photo on Instagram. He started the tradition when he turned 60 in August 2023, posting a cheeky outdoor shower snap taken by his wife Caitlin McHugh, whom he married in 2018 and with whom he shares son Billy. 'The other side of 60,' he captioned it jokingly, looking over his shoulder while covering his modesty.
For his 62nd birthday, he resumed the shower shots, this time on a rooftop in Calvin Klein underwear, closing his eyes for the photo as water poured over him. Stamos wrote: 'A rooftop birthday shower in NYC to start the day, and the love of family and friends to carry me through. At 62, I've learned the best things in life can't be washed away…laughter, love, and gratitude. Thank you for every wish and every year. I don't take a single drop for granted.'
Stamos on aging and his career
That same year, Stamos got his first tattoo—an image of the 'Appeal to the Great Spirit' statue on his upper arm—which he said was 'as a reminder to stay brave, stay open, and trust the direction the art is taking [him].' He has long been described as a celebrity who 'doesn't age.' Speaking to Us Weekly about maintaining his youthful appearance, Stamos said: 'Well, I don't do a lot. I wash my face. Depends on if there's some scrub around. I work out three or four times a week. I do this electric muscle-stimulant thing where you put a suit on, but you only wear it for 20 minutes. But good sleep now is important. Having a young son helps.'
When asked how it feels to be a 'zaddy,' he quipped, 'Do I get an award?' before admitting the compliments are 'flattering' yet 'weird.' He added that he wanted to be famous his 'whole life' and 'didn't care' about acting. Stamos rose to fame with his Emmy-nominated performance as Blackie Parrish on the soap General Hospital and is best known for his starring role as Jesse Katsopolis on Full House. He has also performed on Broadway, executive produced projects, and played live shows with The Beach Boys. Reflecting on his legacy, he said: 'I think the one thing that I wanted to get away from so badly, Full House, is the one thing that's kept me around.'
