Holly Willoughby has recounted a 'really bad' live TV incident involving a 'swinging left boob' which she claims landed her a Page 3 spot. The former This Morning star, 45, is making a comeback with her new YouTube series, Together, in which she shares lifestyle tips and tricks, insights into her own life and exclusive celebrity interviews.
Although the show has received mixed reviews, the TV personality is clearly trying to mark a new phase of her career, at one point talking about her worries over ever sharing her opinion with Katherine Ryan or the fact she would 's**g' Romesh Ranganathan. In the latest episode, Spice Girls icon Emma Bunton and All Saints star Nicole Appleton appeared when the discussion turned to painful on-air mishaps.
Wardrobe malfunction on Ministry of Mayhem
And with a career spanning 30 years on mainstream TV, Holly has plenty of hair anecdotes, including one frightful moment when her boob slipped out on live TV while presenting a Saturday morning children's show. She went into an explanation of the 'mortifying' incident, which took place in a June 2004 episode of her ITV show with Stephen Mulhern, Ministry of Mayhem, during which the band Blue were special guests.
During the segment, Blue were hypnotised and were instructed to do whatever Holly did. So naturally, when they awoke, she went the full ham and started wildly dancing through the studio, swinging her arms, her head and her hair. All a very precarious situation for her strappy yellow tank top.
She reminisced: 'As far as I'm concerned, they were definitely hypnotised. I stood up and I was really like going for it and as I looked down, the strap on my top had broken, and my left boob was swinging. 'But we were still live and I knew it happened and we had an ad break and I came off air and I was like: "tell me you didn't see that!" And they were like: "We can't. We're not going to lie to you. We did see it."'
Page 3 appearance and full circle moment
As Nicole and Emma groaned in sympathy, Holly claimed she made it onto one of the most notorious newspaper segments in British media – known for showcasing near-nude women until it shut down in 2015. She shared: 'And then The Sun put me on Page 3 the next day. So I've been a Page 3 girl with my boob out.'
Years later, the ex-Dancing on Ice host had a full circle moment when she appeared on Page 3 of The Sun, this time on her own terms, wearing a long lacy black dress, draped over the sofa. 'Another 1st for me this morning… Making page 3!!! Ha!,' she quipped in the caption.
During the Together interview, Emma also shared her most embarrassing moment, recounting a performance-gone-wrong. 'I remember looking out to the crowd, and Madonna was watching us. So I was literally at this moment looking at her, like 'Madonna's in the crowd!'. 'And then I fell over. Fell in front of Madonna. I mean, that is one of the most embarrassing things that's ever happened to me,' she lamented.
New YouTube venture and career shift
Holly's new YouTube show marks her first major gig since her ill-fated Netflix show, Celebrity Bear Hunt, failed to land a second season. Taking her destiny into her own hands, she told Press Association: 'It's just a shift. It's been 14 years – you get so used to how things work.'
Entering the online sphere, she reflected: 'It felt like a load of us were kind of learning the same thing. Half the team were digital, half the team worked classic entertainment. It was interesting because everybody was blending their ways of working.'
